The Wooster Cup - Darfield High School, New Zealand

By Elizabeth Stewart

This is for Service and Cooperation in Forms 3 and 4 (now years 9 and 10). It is a Premier Award. Criteria to be eligible for this award is all round helpfulness, taking on a responsibility i.e. Library, Class Captain, Class Counsellor, Canteen. The first engraving was in 1977.

It is presumed that this cup was presented by Mr Ken and Mrs Edna Wooster

Kenneth William Wooster (Tree) was the grandson of William Henry Worster and Mary Wormleaton and the nephew of poet and botanist Lilian Greaves Wooster.

Ken was appointed full time School Caretaker in 1962 and Edna to a part time Cleaner position. They were much-loved and respected Staff members and served the school faithfully until their retirement in 1977. Edna provided floral art displays for the library (mentioned in a book - School on the High Plains by Margaret Thompson) Ken and Edna retired in 1977.

Many thanks to Elaine Guy, Principals Assistant, also to a past Deputy Principal.
