Winifred Learns to Cycle - Or Not!
On August bank Holiday Monday 1934 at 6am at the age of 21, Winifred Frances Wooster chose to try to learn to ride a bicycle, but when she came to a steep hill was unable to stop the bicycle at the junction at the bottom. The bicycle ran into a hedge where she suffered a multiple fracture of her leg, and has never cycled since. She was taken to the Little Cottage Hospital in Aldershot, where her leg had to be reset 3 times and took a month to heal.
