 | Appointment as Postal Clerk in Bath in 1849 William was appointed on the recommendation of Viscount Duncan, MP for Bath.
However, it appears that the other entries on the page were also recommendations by their respective MP's, so it is possible that this was just part of the protocol and maybe William didn't know Viscount Duncan personally.
The stamp over the document saying "minute cancelled" might suggest that this appointment was cancelled. We do know, however, from the 1851 census that William was a post office clerk by 1851. |

Notes |
- In 1851 William was present as a visitor with Eliza and her parents Richard and Mary Lewis in Bath. Eliza's mother was born in Wytham, Berkshire, whereas her two younger brothers William and Richard were both born in Bath.
