Enlistment: 1 Jul 1862 Plashets Industial School, St George in the East, Discharged from school to join Royal Marines, Chatham. Enlistment papers describe him as 4ft 7in tall, fresh complection, hazel eyes and dark hair.

Discharge: 15th Sep 1863, Discharged as 'invalided and Underage' from Royal Marines Had served 1 yr 225 days. He never embarked, was a Drummer and showed 'Good Service'

Enlistment: 4 Dec 1865, Joins navy HMS Formidable as Ward Room Officers Servant, rate of pay 1s/1d per day. Recorded in ships log as of 'Good Character'

18th Jan 1867: Transferred to HMS Charybdis as Gun Room Servant. Sails around world aboard this ship

30 Aug 1871: Paid off from HMS Charybdis. Conduct on discharge recorded as 'VG'

Residence: 1871 Vessels, Royal Navy, England. Gun room servant
