 | Letter from George William Wooster to London Solicitors A letter from George William Wooster to London solicitors Lloyds, enquiring about the Brandon Estates. The letter is flood damaged and has been transcribed here, but some words are difficult to decipher.
To Mesors Lloyd
Dear Sirs,
For some time past the different Brandon’s of our family have been meeting to discuss matters pertaining to property said to be held in the County Chancery. The famous Brandon Estates are said to be well known to lawyers in and around London. I through my mother am a direct descendant hence my desire to know and search out all matters pertaining thereto. My late mother was the daughter of Richard Brandon of Paradice, Rotherhithe. Now the families have been doctrine?? for in Dougal and Chambers next of kin. My mother’s name Henrietta Brandon nee Wooster.
The property is said to be, area around Elephant and Castle, around St Paul’s churchyard, some in Sloan Street W, some in the Old Kent Road, some in the Strand. Some years ago Parker Troop? and Parker are said to have had some dealings with the Brandon Estates. Most of the families were christened at St Mary’s Rotherhithe or St James Bermondsey and some at the Parish Church Suffolk.
Harriett Brandon was the Duchess of Brandon, Dansie.
Sir William Brandon died suddenly in the House of Lords. I also hear that a special Bill of Equity was passed by the House of Lords in connection with the said estates. We are also informed that we are in a direct line of descendants from Charles Brandon Duke of Suffolk. Our crest is the dove and the olive branch.
Mr Lloyd, I have given you the particulars, will you please make the necessary search and find out full particulars regarding this property also let me know what your terms are at the earliest as we are anxious to put it in motion.
I remain
Yours?
G W Wooster |
