- The 1881 Census revealed that Jane had moved to London working as a servant to Adolphus Frederick Williamson, a Chief Superintendent of Police, living at 4 Smith Square in Westminster.
Chief Constable Williamson was made the first head of the C.I.D. at Scotland Yard in 1888 at the time of the Jack the Ripper investigation. At the time he was a very sick man with heart trouble and unfortunately he died in December the following year. Whether Jane was employed by Chief Constable Williamson at the time of the Jack the Ripper investigation we may never know. [7, 8]
