Career

Industrial chemist

Latimer worked for the Cordite Factory (later explosives factory) in Maribrynong 1926-56 and was closely involved with the early production of TNT in Australia. He was one of those chemists who formed the hard core of experience in the munitions industry which was vital to Australia during WW2.

Educated at University of Queensland. Public Analyst's Branch, Queensland State Public Service 1910-20. Munitions production, England 1916-1918 (TNT factory, Stockton-On-Tees and ammonium perchlorate factory, Langwirth). Chemist, Government Acetate of Lime Factory, Cannon Hill, Queensland 1920-26. Research Laboratories (Later Defence Standards Laboratories), Maribrynong 1923, Cordite Facory (later explosives factory) Maribrynong 1926-37, chemist in charge of the laboratory from 1937, later Head of Section until 1956.
